SUSTAINED //

Standby

2011
Video

Without moving, I stood completely still in several busy public places for a period of 25 minutes with a sack in my hand. Passing pedestrians and cars and even the movement of the branches and trees seemed to experience time on a different scale. I am positioned on standby, while everything around me is passing me by. The sack in my hand leaves so many things unanswered; for instance, I could be in a state of shock. This scene triggers associations of unemployment, being displaced, a terrorist attack, the few belongings people have left. The video is shown in fast motion in order to accentuate my immobility and the movements around me.
